Paging Doctor...

There are many aspects of life in Rio that are awesome. It occurred to me that I really should share something I just did a second ago - texted my doctor, to ask if she received my test results, and asking her to call me back when it's a good time for her (because I hardly want to CALL her and interrupt her doing something more important. I mean, come on, she's a doctor!). This would NEVER happen back home. A doctor give out a cell phone number? Um, no. Never. Not in a million years.

Yay ten points for Rio!

From the Camera of...

Dear unsuspecting people who inadvertently leave their camera with me,
I am nosy. I will snoop. I will also ruthlessly take whatever content you might have for my blog. When I scroll through your photos you'd better believe I am hoping there are no late night home videos on there, if you catch my drift. Luckily in this case there weren't, just some gorgeous shots that show off some of the best of what Rio has to offer. Thanks, Tia Pandy! I hope you don't mind ;)  

 
 

World Cup

I will post many, many items on world cup, just need to get organized... I will post about the special edition world cup Gilette razor, the special edition world cup pringles, the M&M's. The Brazil colored streamers hanging from nearly every building, the Brazil-flag covered VW bug, the painted faces. The fact that Mr. DRL and the rest of Rio's business community get extra time off to watch Brazil's games. The fireworks and how on earth I am going to get the Canadoca to sleep when on a normal day here in "quiet Leblon" we have three noise makers (one on rain, one on babbling brook, one on ocean waves, all on full blast) and an air conditioner going to get her to sleep.  So far, so good ;) But Brazil hasn't played yet!

But what an energy in the city - something to unite everyone - it's amazing. So grateful to be here to experience it.

Happy to be in Brazil Because... It's NOT snowing

This is a new series I've been thinking of starting for awhile. Today seemed the perfect day to do so, because apparently it's snowing in Calgary. Or so facebook tells me. Here are some status updates of friends which all cracked me up (and, for the record, it not only snows in Calgary in March on an annual basis, it has also been known to snow there on occasion in May, June, July and August. Thus why I will have to be dragged back there kicking and screaming if Mr. DRL wants to live there again. My vote is for Vancouver)...

Back on topic, DRL! Here are the funny status updates:

From my friend who is coming to visit me in Rio who just booked her ticket:

• I see snowflakes!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
• to which my sister in law replied : Aaaahhhh!

From my friend who just moved TO Calgary from Rio:

• It is snowing. This morning I cleaned the car in flip-flops!

From others:

• So much for spring fever!! I was getting way ahead of myself! I forgot I live in Calgary!

• YAY snow!!! I love snow in March!! Calgary is the best :(

• Dear mother nature: Take back the snow!!!

To most of which I responded:

"I am guessing this is not a good time to mention my swim in a waterfall surrounded by butterflies this morning?"

So for those of you expecting my travel report, it will come later this week. This was too important and timely to wait! Besides, I have to collect my thoughts (and download photos from three different cameras). But the swimming with the butterflies part? Consider it a sneak peek!
