I've hit a bit of a slack patch with the blog. Is it writer's block? Is it that Rio has suddenly become boring? Hardly. Is it that I have a one year old? Probably! Is it ever fun. Is it ever tiring!
I do have a long list of potential blog topics I've scrawled down over the past 2+ years that I just haven't gotten to yet. Maybe I'll start with that. In the meantime, I'll just look to what this blog is supposed to be about, daily life in Rio. What our days look like.
Well, today it rained. Poured, actually. It's funny how no matter where you live in the world, on the first day of lousy weather people sort of come to a standstill. Then by day two or three they suck it up and get on with it. Yes, today was a perfect day for grocery shopping, the stores were empty. But today was not a good idea to have a blanket over a stroller on the way there, ours ended up in a nasty Rio puddle... eek!
By contrast, yesterday was a hot, overcast, windy day. The night before, it was so windy in fact that many trees came down with the wind. Last night was beautiful though. Mr. DRL came home early from work (6 pm) and we ate dinner together and I went out for a night run. As I gazed back towards Leblon from Arpoador with the bright lights shining down on the green sea and the peaks of the two brothers peeking out from a bit of low cloud I could not have felt happier to be right where I was at that moment.
Life in Rio is a bit strange at the moment - many people coming and going, I'm in a bit of a state of flux but I must say, I'm enjoying it. This time of year there are always people gone, and people leaving for good.
The rest of this week in my Rio life seems filled with trying to fix my fridge which keeps freezing everything, coordinating schedules to get as many visits in with those leaving, and what seems like a million appointments.
Better sign off and go bleach that blanket...
Perfectly said! And you're right, there's nothing like returning towards dois irmaos along the calcada, it always makes me feel better, it's so beautiful to take in.

I was just wondering that you wrote earlier that you are strongly against Baba's because you felt that it is wife's 'work'. Now you clearly have one.. any comments?

Thanks airlegs!
Hi Ulli - Did you also catch my entries (circa 2 years ago or so) saying that I would never have a baby in Brazil? haha! Let's say I reserve the right to change my mind ;) Or to just roll and do our very best with what life throws at us. To clarify, I don't have a true Baba. What I have is a babysitter who comes one morning per week so that I can go to yoga, run errands and go out to lunch (she stays for 5 hours), and one evening per week so that Mr. DRL and I can go out on our own.
In essence, the Canadoca spends about 6 waking hours per week in the care of this babysitter, hardly what I'd call full time help. But it sure is nice! Personally the full time nanny thing is still not for me but if I had more kids, who knows, I might change my mind... it wouldn't be the first time!
