The other day my mom and I were comparing prices on blueberries between Brazil in Canada (it's R$37 per kilo here which equals about $10 per lb in Canada, where they are about $3-$4 per pound). Blueberries are hardly a must-have here in Rio but it's nice to have the option every once in awhile. Here are some other grocery prices in case you are curious to get an idea for cost of living etc. before you move here (I am hearing from a LOT of you who are on the verge of a move to Rio lately)...
Other "special" prices @ Zona Sul:
500 ml Extra Virgin Olive Oil R$16.98
200 g Butter R$ 3.18
200 g Nestle Cocoa Powder R$ 5.55
187 g Ferrero Rocher R$19.49
200g Italian Tagliatelle R$ 3.98
690g Tomato Sauce R$ 5.69
250g Cottage Cheese R$ 4.39
Meat Prices
Picanha R$39.80/kg
Frozen File Mignon R$18.90 /kg
Shrimp R$13.99/kg
Other
Colgate Total R$3.19
2 Rolls SNOB Paper Towel R$2.49
1 kilo Dog Food (Pedigree) R$9.99
1 kilo Cat Food (Whiskas) R$11.89
Interesting...! Thanks for posting this DRL! :)
Businessweek ranks Rio as the 28th most expensive city in the world, for 2010. Do you think the numbers here are accurate then? ==>
