Really not sure if this has anything to do with the earthquake in Chile, but on Friday we experienced some CRAZY big waves here in Leblon - 2.5 meter waves, some of which came right up across the beachfront road (click here for an amazing photo of this).
maybe it was because of the earthquake in argentina? everyone seemed to have some kind of movement somewhere or another! Yesterday was a busy day...

These waves happen from time to time. I have certainly seen this in April. They are always spectacular though...

I drove during this on Friday going to and from SDU airport around sunset, it was awesome, HUGE waves, in feet I would say 15ft. It was awesome to see, it's called "o ressaca do mar"...which is funny because ressaca means "hangover". Nothing to take lightly as this can happen during sunny days too and the surge is unreal. It's scary because you can't imagine the distance between the wavebreak and where the tide finally begins to retreat. The ebb and flow is extreme.
