Recently I said to Mr. DRL that the only cuisine I really missed from back home was middle eastern. Have you ever been to Falafel King in Calgary? It's legendary...
So one day we ventured down to Amir in Copacabana.
Amir:
Segunda à Domingo de 12h às 24h.
Rua Ronald de Carvalho, 55 C.
Praça do Lido.
Telefax: (21) 2275-5596.
They have the best hummus I have ever had, and well, actually, everything there is pretty fantastic. During the week there is a buffet lunch which I highly recommend. They also have a few middle eastern grocery items for sale in a little market section. Now, they've opened up a smaller place specializing in wraps, Yalla, right in our neighbourhood. Dangerous!
Yalla:
Rua Dias Ferreira, 45/A - Leblon
How much is the buffet?

I agree, Amir is the best. They have an amazing vegetarian platter. We love the falafel wraps at Yalla too. Good, fast and cheap!

Amir is great, easily the best Middle Eastern buffet in Rio, but I would also try a few other places like Cedro do Líbano in the Saara district (Uruguaiana Metro Station, Rua Senhor dos Passos, 231). Try the hummus--it's the best I've had in Rio!!!
