Is that where Visconde de Pirija becomes Adulfo de Paiva? I may have spelled both of those wrong :) Didn't there used to be an arch there, or am I way off?

yeah there was some really ugly gate thing!! I think that's why it went...was deemed an eyesore (rightly so!)

They got rid of that useless archway thingy!!! YAY!!!! It was probably falling to pieces!!

Na verdade não deveria sequer ter existido.
O projeto de construção foi polêmico e causou enorme descontentamento entre os cariocas.
Podemos neste caso utilizar-nos de um termo popular, comumente(comumente = normalmente) usado: Dizemos tratar-se de um "elefante-branco"("white elephant"), isto é, algo sem função ou desnecessário, que apenas ocupa espaço.
O próximo a desaparecer, acredito, será o obelisco.
