I've been reading your blog on and off for a while now because my husband and I are about to be in assignment in Rio. It's been so crazy trying to get an actual date set from his company, but it finally happened and we'll be down for a month pre-trip to get settled March 16th! Then we'll come back in Summer (or winter there I guess) for an extended time.
Do you have any ties to an expat or expat women's group that I could get in touch with on this first trip?

Ola Senhora DRL, happy anniversary! Thank you for letting me live vicariously through your blog. I so wish I could be living and working in Rio, hopefully one of these days I'll find a way to make it work! I'm going through withdrawal, I haven't been there since last July :( I think I'm actually going to get the word "saudade" tattoo'd on my arm since that's kinda been a big part of my life for the past 4 years with the whole long distance relationship thing.

P.S. Congrats on your little Carioca who is on their way!!!

Alli - I would recommend starting with the INC or International Newcomer's Club. They meet at the Sheraton just outside of Leblon once per month. Are you house-hunting this time? Where are you moving to Rio from?

Joey - Great to hear from you! It's been awhile! I hope you make it here soon too!

Thank you! We won't be house hunting, my husband's company is going to set us up in a furnished hotel. Since we won't be there a full year (or so they say) it will be easier that way. We are moving from Houston, TX and are very excited!

Alli - there are sooo many people from Houston here, especially with companies like Chevron and Devon. I keep joking that I will be more likely to go home with a Texas accent than a Brazilian one.
