That fondue pot is gorgeous!! I can't imagine willingly melting chocolate or cheese in it though.

The south American girls that live in Cairo are the most wonderful to look at - they are always bright and look incredible. In fact, I was at a school meeting - 8:30am... in birkinstocks and jeans... there was a Brazilian mum in a satin blouse - great ear-rings and a fab pair of high heels... boy did I feel dowdy... Don't know how they do it so early in the morning.

I know it is quite the amazing piece!

As far as the Brazilian women all done up go - I have seen this a lot with Brazilian women living abroad (and of course I do see it here as well) but not every Brazilian woman is like this! I do see a lot of women in yoga clothes and running shoes (and birkenstoks!) in the supermarket and around Leblon. But their nails are ALWAYS done ;)

One clothing item really unique to Rio and worn by celebs in the US are GANG jeans. These are the jeans that are super strechy and accent the bum. For women that can pull it off, they are a great souvenir. They used to have a store in that mall by Canecão (mind is totally blanking). I had a friend who always bought a pair when she came to Rio. Minas is a great place for all that soapstone cookery and other soapstone items (like coasters).

Thanks Corinne I will definitely keep an eye out for those - I have a friend coming in next week who will probably be interested!
