Last night Mr. DRL & I attended the INC (International Club of RIo) charity event, benefiting a creche in Rocinha, The Taste of RIo. It was a very well-done event, featuring a bunch of food and drinks from various establishments around Rio and a ton of raffle prizes as well. It made me feel very at home in Rio, because despite the fact that there were over 250 people there, I felt like I knew half the people in the room!
Admittedly I have not actually joined the INC or attended any other of its events since arriving in RIo. There are a wide variety to choose from though - cafezinho's (coffee get togethers) hosted at different member's homes, playdates if you have children, cooking classes, trips, and INC meetings.
I always find and join organisations like that when i first arrive in a new city. There are always people there in teh same "newbie" boat i'm in and there are also people who can help guide me out of the newbie hole i've dug myself into. :) It's a great way to make friends!! :)
