Nice blog. I am an American who lived in Rio from 1984 through 1994. I was 20 years old with a one-year old daughter when I arrived. I was married to a Brazilian man so I had a permanent visa and was able to work. I did not have the perks of the typical ex-pat! I got divorced a year later and stayed on for another 9 years, struggling like all my Brazilian friends.
    But I loved it anyway.
It doesn't seem that things have changed all that much in 14 years.
Here are some of my favorite photos from Brazil: http://www.flickr.com/photos/magicalpossibilities/sets/72157604517738398/
Feel free to e-mail me if you want some great ideas for weekend getaways near Rio.
    Man I miss that place!

    "Beijos!"

Thanks Suzanne. I imagine it would be very difficult to live here without the expat benefits! It is a great place to be that is for sure.
