Today I checked out a few more country clubs of Rio and leisure center type places along the lagoa (I will post a full review of my "research" soon), a few interesting Brazil-esque sightings:
- Coming down a main street in Leblon, we hear a bus' brakes squealing (for about a block or so) - despite which, it does not appear to be slowing down as it approaches the bus stop we are walking past. At all. At the very last second it comes to a screeching halt, about two inches from the bus in front of it... maybe this does not sound as alarming as it felt at the time but about 20 of us breathed a huge sigh of relief...
- Three guys mowing a lawn. No, not by hand, no not with three mowers. Not one guy in a ride-along with two passengers. No one following with a weed-whacker, either. One guy with an electric motor, the second holding the cord, the other observing. I hate to wonder what this would have looked like if they were using a gas motor?
- I did not get to see this next spectacle firsthand, but today on the way to work the taxi my husband was riding in apparently broke down and the main concern of the driver was not his car, my husband, or even his (half) cab fare, it was making sure that he was able to secure Mr. DRL a ride in a cab of the same company as his... so out into three lanes of traffic he went apparently...
